Episode 17 | Gaining trust & persevering through tough times with Sue Byrne,
Tuesday Oct 06, 2020
Tuesday Oct 06, 2020
In this episode we talk with Sue Byrne, Director of ByrneBright Solutions.
We discussed Sue's personal story of her experience with management and leadership throughout her career and go into the details of a tough situation she had to go through. Facing imminent strike from employees and the threat of closure from company executives, Sue was given a short timeframe in which to turnaround the manufacturing site she was now at the helm of! Sue shares her thoughts of being tough and having the right mindset that helped get her through this situation.
Gaining trust from the employees as a key attribute to the successful outcome of this situation. She developed buy-in from the staff, built relationships between management and factory staff and was ultimately able to turn the site around.
If we wait until we are ready or the time is perfect, the time will never be right. This was something Sue shared and we discuss the ability to be adaptable after throwing yourself into the deep end and growth comes at the end of your comfort zone.
A big thank you to Sue for being part of our podcast series and thank you to you the listener!

This week we had the pleasure of talking with James Segal, Founder of SynergyMode, a recently created business advocating and facilitating a better world of board-level advice to help businesses succeed.
One of James' core points is that leadership is about your ACTIONS NOT about your TITLE. We go on to discuss the importance of self-confidence and self-belief for two main reasons: 1 - to be able to address a large audience (back in the days when we could do public speaking!) and also, perhaps more importantly 2- to get yourself in the right mindset, being able to challenge the status quo and belief in yourself that you can in fact be a leader.
We go on to discuss the importance of really getting to know your employees and understanding what their primary motivating factors are. I (Callum) could relate to this as earlier this year I employed my first intern and we got to know each other well, however with the position being remote, I was a little unsure as to how many personal questions I should ask. So for me, this was a really useful perspective to hear from another great leader.
Again a big thank you to James for recording the podcast with us and a big thank you to you for listening!

Episode 13 | Summary: Frank Kelcz, Founder & Partner at the 2Y3X programme
Tuesday Aug 25, 2020
Tuesday Aug 25, 2020
Our short summary of our recent episode with Frank.
Original podcast description: Frank is the Founder of 2Y3X, an exciting accelerator programme for promising companies to triple their sales revenue over the course of 2 years. Frank discusses his leadership stories, his appetite for risk-taking at the various companies he has worked at, and his collaborative approach to sales with clients. Most notably, Frank discusses his entrepreneurial flair; whilst noticing an opportunity in an unserviced market whilst on holiday, led he and his team to create a very successful magazine, with relatively little funding in the US market for new Spanish-speaking mothers.
We discuss Frank’s experiences of being a leader and he describes this as the one who brings a creative flair to creating solutions for his clients and working with managers in his organisation to ensure the promises can be and actually do get delivered upon. Find out why Frank also believes in the importance of leaders having experience in cold-calling!

Our short summary of our recent episode with AC.
Original podcast description: Aritra ‘AC’ Chakravarty is the Founder and CEO of Project Imagine a FinTech startup based in London. AC started his career at a large global bank, moving into numerous roles, with his latest position as the Global Head of Digital FX and Investment Products in Hong Kong. Realising that he had an appetite for risk and resonated more as a leader than a manager, he took the leap to set up his own company, Project Imagine in 2017. Social contracts, salary transparency & prioritising values over performance are at the top of his leadership agenda. Recognising the cultural shift that exists in the younger generations' desire to work for themselves at some point in their career, compared to previous generations. AC values the importance of developing social contracts with his team. Recognising that as individuals younger generations have their own aspirations and this is crucial to consider to retain the best talent.
A strong team culture is present throughout the company and transparency is at the core of this, with total internal transparency over every team member’s salary. Furthermore, AC discusses his value vs performance matrix and providing each team member has the right values at heart, a dip in performance will not result in disciplinary action. We discuss how this fosters a culture of improved risk taking. A fascinating discussion from a leader who has experienced a very successful career in both the corporate and start-up environments!
